Discover how this art form embraces imperfection and celebrates the beauty of cracks as a symbol of strength and rebirth. • You’ll receive a small plate featuring a traditional Edo-era design, such as seigaiha (waves), asanoha (hemp leaves), or takokarakusa (vines), each with its own cultural significance. • Using accessible and allergy-safe materials like chemical resin, acrylic lacquer, and mica powder, follow a guided process to restore your plate step by step. Highlight natural cracks, combine and stabilize broken pieces, and apply adhesive and gold powder to enhance the flaws. You’ll transform the broken vessel into a decorative art piece symbolizing resilience and beauty. Take it home as a reminder to face life’s challenges with strength and grace. Note: While traditional kintsugi uses natural lacquer and pure gold, this experience employs modern substitutes for safety and efficiency.

Join me, a longtime mural preservationist, as I reveal the stories behind the eye-popping street art in two of Tokyo’s trendiest neighborhoods: Shibuya and Harajuku. • In between spotting graffiti tags and admiring massive murals, we’ll duck into secret alleyways, abandoned buildings, and underground spots that are only known by locals. • For daytime sessions, we’ll also stop by galleries and view current art exhibitions (when available). If you select the night tour, you’ll get a glimpse of graffiti artworks painted on shuttered storefronts, which are normally hidden from view. • We’ll wrap up at a cafe with a brief digital demonstration of before-and-after examples of murals, including one that has been turned into an NFT. • You’ll have plenty of time to photograph your favorite scenes along the way. I’ll guide you through the process of putting one on, and then we’ll visit the scenic Shounji Temple for a peaceful walk and photos. **FOR WOMEN ONLY • You’ll learn the proper method of putting on and wearing a kimono, including how to tie a hanhaba obi (half-width sash). • We’ll stroll around the nearby Shounji Temple and take photos. (In case of rain, you’ll instead learn kimono etiquette indoors.) After that we will move to Shinjuku via the JR Yamanote Line (12 minute train ride) and show you the gritty side of Tokyo, showing you the tiniest of alleys and the main night-life spot. The tour/photoshoot is going to be around 2-3 hours. I will be providing you with 25-40 high resolution photos, post processed and ready to share to your friends and family. You have an experience of Sashiko embroidery stitching through making "Sashiko fukin". "Sashiko fukin" is known as dish towel in Japan and very popular Sashiko learning item for novices. This item is very practical. After finishing to make, you can use it as handkerchief, lunch mat, rapping something like sandwich, flower base mat etc. The size is approx. 33cm×33cm. Although you cannot finish the stitching during the experience, you will get knowledge and skill how to complete it by yourself. Therefore you can enjoy the stitching even at home. <What you do?> Step 1: Choose a Sashiko pattern and a thread color. I've provided you with many sort of Sashiko cloths which is printed on a fabric and thread colors. Please enjoy picking your favorite one out. Step2: Preparation. I introduce how to treat for a fabric and a thread before doing stitch. Step 3: Do Sashiko stitching. After showing my demonstration to you, you will start stitching on the cloth you chosen. This time makes you enjoy and relax! Step 4: Explain Sashiko basic role and tips. We will eat at 5-6 local food restaurants and shops that are popular among the locals. Most of them have a very long history and small family-owned businesses. Throughout the tour, you will taste a wide variety of Japanese food and experience our unique culture. Other things to note This tour is run by either me or my staff. Food is included in the price.
